Training of
trainers
PED Brasil’s training of trainers program was created for faculty in Higher Education Institutions who are interested in offering the specialization program at their institution. The first training of trainers program was held in 2016 and, since then, three cohorts of HEI faculty have completed it, totaling more than 520 professors.
During the training program, prospective PED trainers – enrolled as faculty teams from HEIs – engage the theoretical and research bases for the PED Brasil curriculum. This program is intensive and interactive, immersing future trainers in an authentic experience that both cements their learning and illuminates the important interplay between theory, practice, and reflection.
Upon completing the training of trainers program, the faculty members receive a certificate from the Lemann Center for Educational Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Brasil, signaling the ability to offer the PED specialization program at their HEI. Faculty members at the University can assume the role of instructor and/or mentor in the specialization program.
How does the training of trainers program work?
Each university interested in becoming a member of the PED network identifies a team of coordinator, professors, and mentors. This team participates in a two-year training by the PED Brasil team, consisting of:
Face-to-face interactions:
Three (staggered) weeks of face-to-face professional learning, during which time the PED team introduces PED Brasil’s pedagogy and course modules in an immersive, interactive classroom environment. University teams have dedicated time for reflection and planning while also benefiting from multiple opportunities to interact with colleagues from other HEIs.
Participation in Working Groups (WGs):
Working Groups operate via videoconference and engage in deep learning and reflection on each of the 10 modules of the program. WGs use a gradual-release-of-responsibility model, facilitated by the PED Brasil team. WGs are a highly collaborative space, where faculty teams build their capacity – with PED Brasil team support – to deliver the PED curriculum.
